The Story Behind Mohit Digitals
A photography studio on Civil Lines in Sitapur, working across central Uttar Pradesh. The same team from the first enquiry to the finished album.
01 / The beginning
How Mohit Digitals Began
The work here is not new. Prem Kumar Mishra has been photographing weddings in Sitapur since 1982, and for most families here that name has been the answer to the question of who is shooting the wedding for four decades. Mohit Digitals is his son's studio, carrying that work forward.
Mohit Mishra grew up in it. He learned the work the way it used to be learned, standing beside his father at other people's weddings, long before it was anything he did for a living. What he runs now is a unit inside Mohit Studio in Sitapur, set up to carry that same work forward under its own name.
The point of the name is what it commits the studio to. In a district this size a wedding is talked about long after the day, and a studio that has been here since 1982 has its name on every one of them. Everything below is built around that.
What the studio does today is straightforward enough to say in a sentence: weddings and pre-weddings, babies, maternity, birthdays and family sittings, and the event, corporate and product work that fills the months between wedding seasons. The same people shoot all of it.
02 / The team
Meet the Team
The people who turn up on the day
Whoever you speak to when you enquire is one of the people who will be at your shoot. The studio does not subcontract weddings to photographers you have not met.
-
Mohit Mishra
Founder and Creative Director
Son of Prem Kumar Mishra, and the reason the studio still shoots the way it does. He shoots weddings himself and plans every one of them, from the running order to who stands where on the main day.
-
Female photographer
On request, subject to availability
For bridal rooms, getting-ready coverage, maternity sessions and the bride's side at a nikah. She is not on every shoot, so ask for her when you enquire rather than on the day, and we will tell you straight away whether she is free for your date.
Prem Kumar Mishra has been photographing in Sitapur since 1982 and the studio's work still runs through him. Weddings booked with Mohit Digitals are shot by Mohit and the team he puts on your date.
03 / Approach
Our Approach to Photography
A wedding is not a photoshoot with guests attached. It is a series of functions with their own light, their own pace and their own people, and a photographer who treats it as one long session produces one long session's worth of frames.
What that means in practice
- We plan the dayThe running order, the halls, where the light is at each hour, and who matters in which frame, agreed before the day rather than worked out on it
- We light rather than hopeOff-camera light for mehndi rooms, sangeet stages and banquet halls, so the room behind the subject does not fall away to black
- We cull hardYou get a set worth looking at, not every frame the shutter made. Nobody opens an album of four thousand photographs twice
- We grade by handOne consistent grade across the whole set, applied frame by frame rather than by preset, so a wedding looks like one wedding
- We stay quietThe camera goes where it needs to and the photographer does not become part of the event
The same thinking applies to a newborn session or a catalogue shoot. Understand what the photographs are actually for, plan around that, and stay out of the way of the thing being photographed.
04 / Equipment
The Equipment We Shoot On
Equipment is not the reason to book a photographer, but there are two things about it worth knowing, because they change what happens when something goes wrong.
The first is redundancy. Every camera at a wedding writes to two cards at once, and there is always a spare body in the bag. A card failing is not a story about a card, it is a story about a wedding with no photographs. The second is that dark rooms are normal here. Mandaps at midnight, sangeet halls and mehndi rooms are what the kit is chosen for, not bright afternoons.
What is in the bag
- BodiesSony and Canon, with a spare on every wedding
- Lenses28-70mm for ceremony coverage, and 35mm, 50mm and 85mm primes for portraits and the close work
- LightGodox LC500 and SmallRig panels for mehndi rooms, sangeet halls and anywhere the ceiling tubes are doing the wrong thing
- ColourRGB LEDs for sangeet stages and reception setups, where the light is part of the photograph rather than something to correct
- DroneOwned, with more hired in when a venue needs them. Quoted separately rather than folded into a package
That is the working kit rather than a full inventory. If a shoot needs something that is not on this list, it is hired in and shown on the quote rather than absorbed quietly.
Everything is backed up twice on the night of the shoot, once on site and once at the studio, before a single frame is edited.
